The client

Malaga is the Andalusian province with the highest number of people with disabilities. There are more than 112,000 Malaga citizens who have a recognised degree of disability of more than 33%, more than 6% of the current population of the province.

Given this context, the Town Hall of Alhaurín de la Torre, a municipality in the province of Málaga with 39,911 inhabitants, decided to set up an adapted sports school.

The sports council of Alhaurín de la Torre, aware of our experience in the management of sports schools, contacted Juan Rodríguez, franchisee of Sportmadness Málaga, to lead the full management of the school in the municipality. Undoubtedly, a strong commitment of the local council to adapt the sport to the entire population.

The project

After achieving the collaboration between Sportmadness and the local council, we went to the main schools of the municipality to present the adapted sports school.

During their hours at the school, the students enjoy multi-sports activities, adapted to each one individually, where the instructors measure and report on the evolution of the students regularly. The project is coordinated by a person with extensive experience in caring for people with disabilities, who is also in charge of training all the sports instructors. Moreover, the school is developed in a progressive way, starting with low ratios of instructor/pupil and, little by little, increasing the autonomy of each one of them.

In addition, special days are also organised. Among them, the basketball day organised together with the ex-player of Unicaja and the Spanish National Team, Berni Rodríguez, in which both the students and their families could enjoy an unforgettable day.

The management of Sportmadness made it possible to achieve success in attracting teams and spread awareness, creating a promotional website for the event, as well as a focused execution in a single weekend that made it possible to create an unforgettable experience for both children and adults.

The results

A professional and innovative adapted school.

Thanks to the professionalism of the school's staff, there are currently more than 14 students (both children and adults) and a waiting list has been set up due to the high demand. The degree of adaptation and personal care means that the evolution of students is carried out progressively, always trying to accommodate the greatest number of users and adapting the sports and activities practised to each one of them.

The commitment to individualised supervision and the adaptation of activities in a personalised way make the Alhaurín de la Torre school an ideal centre for the personal development of its pupils. This is reflected in the comments of some parents:

  • "It has been great! They are a great team of professionals and I can't wait to come back".
  • "We need camps like this one, and with involved staff like you. THANK YOU."
  • "We like everything that has been achieved. We are proud, congratulations to all of you".

Currently, the adapted sports school has students from all over the province and a great social impact throughout the municipality, which has led the council to complete this service with an adapted sports camp during the summer, a way of continuing to offer a service to all these great sportschildren!
