Sport in the streets
Boosting sports spaces for teenagers

The client
This project has been carried out together with the Vallecas Neighbourhood Association and with the support of the Villa de Vallecas District, belonging to the Madrid City Council.
As part of the Neighbourhood Plans programme, this district is committed to sport as a healthy leisure alternative for young people. Its aim is to raise awareness of sports facilities among children and to make responsible and educational use of them.
The project
With a gender perspective, in order to offer healthy leisure alternatives, prevent risky behaviour among young people, encourage youth participation, promote neighbourhood identity and the creation of networks beyond their reference groups.
The objective is to raise awareness of the disciplines and sports that have specific areas in Ensanche de Vallecas (skatepark, parkour, climbing wall...) among the population of the District, in order to contribute towards a city free of inequalities, to be developed in the basic municipal sports facilities of the Villa de Vallecas District.

The results
From Sportmadness, and with the involvement and constant support of the Vallecas Neighbourhood Association and the Villa de Vallecas District, the Learning on the street project has achieved a 90% occupancy rate for all the activities launched.
The project has been running for several months and many young people are already enjoying the skateboarding, calisthenics, parkour and climbing activities every week.
This is an example of investment and boosting of outdoor sports facilities, offering a clear alternative of healthy leisure for young people.
