A football league to foster relationships between companies in the same sector and improve employee engagement

The client

Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay and the largest city in the Bay of Montevideo, with almost 1.5 million inhabitants. It ranks as the seventh largest city in Latin America and was rated as the city with the best quality of life in the region in 2018. Due to the commitment to quality of life, different companies in the technology sector based in Montevideo, sought to reduce sedentary lifestyles and strengthen social relationships among its employees. Among them, Tryolabs, a company that works with Artificial Intelligence and sells solutions to startups abroad, mostly in California, San Francisco or New York, was a pioneer in the competition. The contact between Sportmadness Montevideo and the companies was fundamental to reach an agreement with all of them and organise a 4-month mixed football league in which all their employees could participate.

The project

After a first contact, a total of 8 technology companies committed to participate in the Tech Cup organised by Sportmadness Montevideo. After analysing the needs of the companies, a football league of short duration (3-4 months) was organised in a 5x5 game format. This format is currently the most popular in the municipality. This league also had a mixed character in which the teams had to be balanced in number of men and women, and essentially recreational, promoting the team building approach demanded by the companies. Likewise, specialised referees monitored the entire league and it was widely promoted on social networks, which, together with good work in the digital and audiovisual fields, made the league a great success. As a final touch, a unique weekend day was organised in which all the teams participated, initially divided into two groups, so that they could share their experiences and create a strengthening of relationships between companies in the same sector.

The results

An inter-company league that strengthened the relationship between employees and relieved them from a sedentary lifestyle. The customers were very satisfied with the whole event due to the quality of the organisation. There were no incidents in any of the matches and all participants were able to take home a photo as a memory of the competition. The companies appreciated the professionalism of Sportmadness Montevideo, which was able to meet the expectations of the event. Proof of this was that several of the participating companies made their participation public on their social networks such as Facebook or Instagram. In addition, after the event, our franchise continued working with some of the companies. One of them, Tryolabs, asked us to organise a padel tennis tournament for its employees and acquired the digital fitness platform GimnasioTV (developed by Sportmadness) to promote sport at home among its employees in times of pandemic.
