For a long time animals have been used to tell us stories with great learning behind them. It is something that works because the characteristics or abilities of the animals can be totally different.

It turns out that the hedgehog is the new hare, and the tortoise has now turned into a tiny lizard of the Basilisk species.

The lizard and the hedgehog have spent years walking together in search of food. During their journey, they have had to endure thousands of threats, birds have attacked them, snakes have attacked them, then the rain and even the hail came.

The hedgehog, which is ten times the size of the lizard, cannot help but hesitate every time these situations occur. The hedgehog has a clear strategy, it forms a ball, takes out quills and waits for the threat to end. When everything happens, he continues his march. The lizard, on the other hand, has been forced to learn to climb trees, to camouflage itself in the environment and even learned which are the best plants to shelter from the rain.

One day, something surprising happened, without really knowing why, the heat of the asphalt began to increase, to the point that legs burned. The lizard, thanks to its agility, was able to walk fast without getting burned. The hedgehog began to run but it was inevitable that with each step he took, the pain became more unbearable.

When it seemed that the hedgehog was going to give up, the lizard warned him that the river was nearby, the lizard, without much complication, managed to reach the shore and waited for the hedgehog there. The very sore hedgehog managed to put his paws in water and calm his pain.

When they both looked up, they realized that the river cut perpendicularly their way to the food, the distance to the other shore was barely 50 meters but going around it could take months.

And as if it were a war cry, the basilisk lizard began to walk on the water with the agility that characterized it.

It was then that the hedgehog realized that his problem was not external threats, but that the environment itself was changing.

Instead, the lizard, which by nature remained agile, had learned to survive in a state of constant uncertainty, had developed such important skills as learning to walk on water.

The VUCA environment (Volatility, Uncertainty , Complexity and Ambiguity) is the new norm, companies must be agile, like the basilisk and learn that certainties will be momentary but that environments change and we must be prepared.
